1938 - Graduated from Virginia Military Institute
1941-1943 - draft deferred due to critical chemical plant construction work
1943 - Volunteered for US Navy. Boot training at Newport, Rhode Island
1944 - Commisioned Ensign - Hospital Specialist - trained at Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD
- Stationed with the Maleria and Epidemic Control Unit #17, 3rd Marine Division, at Guam, Marianas
1945 - On Iwo Jima for five weeks, then back to Guam
- Promoted to LT(jg). Returned to USA at San Diago CA.
1946 - US Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD for treatment of knee injury
- released from active duty
1948-1953 - Civil Engineering Corps, US Naval Reserve

1943 - Drafted into US Army, Basic Training at Camp Buttner, NC
1944 - Army Air Force Aerial Gunnery School, Miami Beach FL
- In action with 78th Division in France as Machine Gun Section Leader
- Staff Sargent, 'D' Company, 2nd Batallion, 310th Regiment
1945 - Wounded in action - 6 weeks in hospital, Cherbourg
- Occupation duty with 78th Division at Kassel. Germany
1946 - Returned to USA and was honorably discharged
1947 - 2nd LT. in Virginia National Guard

1944 - O.S.S school - Fort Benning, GA
- Stationed with OSS in North Africa, made 3 jumps into German occupied Italy to work with guerrillas.
1945 - Regimental S-3 with Airborne training regiment
- Transfered to 503rd parachute infantry regiment (Company 'F', 2nd Battalion) in the Philippine Islands
July 14 - Killed in action near Fabrica Oriental Negros Island
